Tarangire National Park

Impala & babyTarangire has a wild beauty, similar to the parks in Southern Tanzania.  There are spectacular baobab trees, abundant elephant and wildlife and even an occasional palm tree.  The Tarangire river lures animals to it's banks during the dry season, making it one of the best places to visit during the dry months of June through November.  Elephants dig in the drying river bed for water and thirsty migrants are plentiful: wildebeest, zebra, eland, giraffe and buffalo can be seen at the pools.  Birds too are abundant.

When the rains come in late October, the animals migrate out of the park North to the Serengeti, leaving the resident waterbuck, warthog, impala, rhino and giraffe behind.  As the waters increase, so does the tsetse fly population.  A blessing in disguise, this small fly has kept the Maasai and their cattle out of the area, leaving the land and the wildlife undisturbed for many years.

Environment: Acacia and mixed woodland forests.  Dense vegetation and elephant grass environments along the permanent Tarangire River.  Freshwater pools and swamplands in the Southern Tarangire attract hippos and abundant bird life.

Best Time to Visit: July through December

Don't Miss:  Walking Safaris from Oliver's Camp, Lemiyon in the North with an amazing baobab forest.  Burungi Game Circuit and tree climbing pythons in Larmakau.
