Ruaha National Park is the second largest in Tanzania and is a pristine and untouched wilderness visited by few.  Unchanged throughout the centuries, Ruaha is named after the great river that flows along the Eastern boundary of the park.  You can stay in a beautiful river camp overlooking the rapids or if you are feeling more adventurous, bring your own tent, food and water and stay in a primitive campsite in the middle of wild Africa!

Your adventure to Ruaha will probably center around the great river where crocodiles bask, hippos frolic and clawless otters search for minnows.  Many animals come here to drink and you will see Reed buck, Water buck and buffalo.  Leopard, Lion, jackal, spotted hyena and African hunting dogs also haunt the waterways.  Eurasian migrant birds visit Ruaha in October.

Best Time to Visit:  Between July and November when animals stay at the water holes.  During the wet season, Jan - Mar, the rivers flood and animals hide in the long grass.  Travel is next to impossible during the rains.
