NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA

ngorongoro crater-8th world wonder

"It is impossible to give a fair description of the size and beauty of the Crater, for there is nothing with which one can compare it. It is one of the Wonders of the world."

- Richard Grzimek

Environment: The Conservation Area covers over 8,000 square miles encompassing a variety of habitats including lake shore, swamp, desert, forest and plains. You will find mountains, active volcanoes, and the densest predator concentration of any National Park. The famous Ngorongoro Crater accounts for a mere 3% of the conservation area that supports wildlife, Maasai villages, archeological sites, research, education and, of course, tourism.

Best time to Visit: November to May is the wet season and the time of year when you will find most of the migratory animals in residence. June and July are dry and cold with spectacular mists shrouding the forests on the rim of the crater. August to October wraps up the dry season with temperatures increasing along with bright and clear skies. There really is not a bad time to visit Ngorongoro.

Don't Miss: A visit to Olduvai Gorge, site of the famous Leakey excavations. The rare black rhinocerous in the crater. A night in the Luxurious Ngorongoro Serena Lodge. Bird watching at Lake Magadi. Sunset views from the crater rim. A walking safari to Maasai country.
